Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal chaired a high-profile meeting with the Education Ministry to review programmes and schemes.
Amit Khare, Secretary of Higher Education and Anita Karwal, Secretary of Secondary Education were among the many senior officials who attended this meeting.
At the meeting, the Education Minister suggested UGC should disburse scholarships and fellowships on a timely basis so that students benefit the most from them.

He even suggested that a helpline should be initiated for this. This helpline will allow authorities to address all the grievances of students related to availing scholarships and fellowships.
Also, a formative decision was made at the meeting to begin Technical studies and especially Engineering courses in the mother tongue. It is expected that technical programs will be open for teaching in mother tongue from the next academic year.
To bring this to effect, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and NITs have been consulted for the same.
The meeting also had the attendees decide on bringing out a new syllabus for competitive exams. The process will commence soon after all the boards conduct a thorough evaluation of the present scenario. The initiative has already been in process by the National Testing Agency.

Pokhriyal suggested the beginning of a campaign for this to seek feedback from teachers, students and their parents on ways to conduct examinations for the following year.
