Education Minister Announces Opening of Three IIITs in Uttarakhand; Check Details Here


Union Minister For Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal has announced that 3 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) will be opened in Uttarakhand in the coming future. 

The decision was announced in a meeting with the Education Minister of Uttarakhand Dhan Singh Rawat in Delhi on December 2. Pokhriyal further advised Mr.Rawat to focus on women empowerment by promoting education in hill areas.

Pokhriyal said in a statement that the government will soon open 3 IIITs in the state. The institutes will be established in private-public partnership mode in Haridwar, Dehradun and Udhan Singh Nagar. 

He also invited the state government to give suggestions regarding the establishment of IISER in the state. Pokhriyal also gave his assurance that the Ministry of Education will release grants for these institutes as soon as possible.

During the discussion regarding women’s empowerment, the Union Minister also asked the Uttarakhand government to provide facilities to girls in higher education. He said that the state government can provide a list of priority areas to the center.

After that, the central government can start higher education facilities for girls in backward and remote areas. Projects of these kinds would also help the center to provide better solutions in regards to women empowerment. In addition, it would also strengthen the relationship between the center and the state. 

Union Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal also announced recently that a taskforce has been set up to prepare a roadmap for offering technical courses in regional languages. The task force will be led by the Secretary of Higher Education and will also include stakeholders from all fields.

Mr. Pokhriyal further said that this decision was in accordance with the policies of the new National Education Policy. A number of premier institutes like IITs and NITs were selected to kick start this proposal from next year.
