Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has requested the administration to extend the alternative mode of evaluation to the final semester students, amid the second wave of COVID-19 upsurge.
In 2020, Delhi University evaluated the marks of first and second-year students on the basis of their performance in internal assessment and marks in previous examinations. Likewise, due to the current COVID-19 situation in the country, the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) is now requesting the authorities to use an alternative method for evaluation for final year students.
As per the letter, which was addressed to acting vice-chancellor PC Joshi, DUTA stated that keeping in mind the increasing cases of the pandemic in the states, the university is requested to review their Delhi University Exam 2021 decision in order to ensure safety of students.
The letter reads, "With the kind of damage which families have suffered, we feel that the university should review the decision regarding examinations for the terminal semester/year students. The alternate mode adopted for the continuing students may be extended to the terminal semester students as well.”
Delhi University Exam 2021 Postponed for Final Semester
In early May, Delhi University postponed the examination for final semester students by 15 days as the number of COVID cases seemed to rise. The exams were supposed to commence from May 15, however, it has now been rescheduled to commence from June 1, 2021.
As per the university's notice, Delhi University Exam 2021 for final semester students will be held online via an open-book format.
Referring to the effect of COVID-19 in students’ education, the teacher’s body added in the letter, “As IInd semester (UG/PG)/first-year students are continuing students, the time allotted for the examination work in the Academic Calendar may be used for providing this relief”.
“We may aim at starting the new academic session for the continuing students (III/V/VII semester) from the last week of August" the letter further reads.
The letter further added that students of the college were not able to submit their respected assessments due to the effect of coronavirus, and family situations. Therefore, the deadline for the same should be extended further.
As per the DU Time Table 2020, which was issued for continuing students last year, the vacation period for the students is expected to begin from May 28, 2021. Apart from requesting to further extend the deadline for assessment submission for last year’s students, the body also requested the authority to revise the academic calendar.
