DU UG Admission 2021: Equivalence Committee Directs to Include State Board Subjects for Cut Off Calculation; Details Here

DU UG Admission 2021: The equivalence committee of Delhi University has officially directed to include state board subjects while calculating cut off marks. DU has an equivalence committee which decides upon considering state board subjects equal to that taught by CBSE. If the committee refrains from not posing a subject equivalent, it cannot be a part of the ‘Best of Four’.

Thus, as per the latest improvisations, Delhi University (DU) will now consider subjects taught under state board equivalent to that of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the process of calculating cutoff marks.

Of late, the varsity has been receiving increased applications for DU UG Admission 2021 from state board students and specifically from Kerala Board, which prompted the decision. Reports claim, a meeting was held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 when the decision was made.

DU UG Admission 2021: State Board Subjects Considered for Cut Off Calculation

While explaining the process, Rajeev Gupta, chairman, admissions at DU said, CBSE has started offering applied mathematics for students who were weak in mathematics, which means it is easier than mathematics.

He asserted, “CBSE has also written that students of applied mathematics will not be eligible for physics (Hons), chemistry (Hons) and mathematics (Hons). The Equivalence Committee considered it and found that applied mathematics cannot be considered for economics (Hons) since the course requires a difficult level of mathematics but it can be considered for B.Com(Hons).”

Maharashtra HSC and SSC Board have subjects namely, Mathematics and Statistics, which will be considered equivalent to CBSE Mathematics. On the other hand, Nagaland Board of School Education's Fundamentals of Business Mathematics has been excluded from this consideration.

Similarly, Bihar School Education Board has Hindi and English subjects that carry a weightage of 50-mark each, apart from 100-mark papers for these subjects. The committee has informed, 50-mark papers will not be considered for calculation of best-of-four average for applying to DU affiliated colleges

The guidelines also state that Kerala Board of Higher Secondary Education’s accountancy with computer accounting will not be considered equivalent to Business Studies of CBSE.

Reports say, a number of colleges which have claimed 100% cut off have several applications received from Kerala state board students. News has surfaced, colleges have been denying admission without stating any substantial reason or simply holding back applications stating ‘clarifications to be sought from the university’.
