Delhi University Update: As per the latest update, Delhi University is now all set to reopen for classes and practical work for science stream students of the college from August 16, 2021.

Delhi University students who are now in the final year science program in DU affiliated colleges and need to use the laboratories for practical work/classes can return to their colleges from August 16, 2021, as per the schedule.

The classes for Delhi University Science program students will be conducted in accordance with the safety guidelines released by the government. Students appearing for classes will have to follow the strict safety guidelines, and protocols.

As per the official Registrar’s office notice, “Taking note of the number of Covid-19 cases, it has been decided that classes and practical/project work, etc in respect of PG and UG Programmes students in Science Courses in University and its Colleges shall be conducted in physical mode with effect from 16.08.2021 observing necessary protocol to prevent the spread of Covid-19”.

Delhi University affiliated colleges have been closed since March 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic situation in the country. The classes for all university students were conducted through online means in order to ensure their safety.

As of now, physical attendance in education institutes and colleges in Delhi has been made voluntary in view of the pandemic. Students can either appear for the class through online means or appear for physical classes as per the schedule.

With the commencement of physical classes for Delhi University science stream students, it is expected that the university will also resume the classes for second-year students through physical means.

DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said, “Initially, we had decided to re-open only final-year students, but teachers said it is very difficult to teach in a ‘half-and-half-way’ with different modes for different sets of students".

"Given that Covid seems to be very much under control now, we decided that science students can return especially because they need the hands-on experience of being in the classrooms and laboratories" he further added.

With the reopening of classes, the Delhi University Hostel will also be reopened for outstation students only. However, the university added that the hostel accommodations for all students who have been called back can not be guaranteed.

Referring to the hostel, Vikas Gupta said, “Science students make up only about 25% of all students in the university so I don’t think accommodation will be a problem. They will be accommodated in the college and university hostels to the extent possible”.

“However we cannot guarantee that all students will get it. Accommodation will be available at the PGs as well, where there will be less load than usual. The supply will be far more than the demand,” he added.
