DU to Launch 4 Year UG Program Under NEP 2020; Read Full Report Here


Delhi University UG Program 2021: As per the latest updates, Delhi University is now planning on implementing the New Education Policy 2020 and releasing a four-year duration UG course under the policy for all interested and eligible university students.

Delhi University is recently working on the transformation phase and is expected to launch new education centers under the Institution of Eminence (IoE) tag. Additionally, the university is planning to launch the program in accordance with NEP 2020 after proper planning. 

During an interview, Prof PC Joshi, Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Delhi University stated that the university is planning on implementing the National Education Policy 2020 from academic session 2022. However, the authorities need more time for preparations.

In accordance with the policy, the university is expected to offer provisions like a three or four-year UG program, academic credits, the option to leave the program in between, and one and two-year duration postgraduate programs. 

As of now, Delhi University will take the discussion regarding the implementation of the National Education Policy to the Statutory Committee. Further, the report will be sent to the academic council, and a final decision on the same will be made from the next session onwards. 

Referring to the IoE, the Vice-Chancellor said, "Under the IoE we will not be running regular courses like the BA Programme or so, it will have very niche kinds of courses which will be self-sustaining and these will be different from the existing courses that we have".

He further added that as for NEP 2020, the university will offer practical education as well as theoretical education to students. Talking about privatization due to IoE and NEP, he explained that the constitutional provisions will be created in the interest of the students. 

DU Colleges to Introduce Over 22 UG PG Courses While 900 Seats to be Added 

Students who belong to reserved categories, such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc, will be offered admission seats in various Delhi University Affiliated Colleges as per the reservation policy. 

In order to help students who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi University has decided not to charge any fee from the year 2021-200. Students who have lost their parents to a coronavirus pandemic will be exempted from paying the university fee. 

Talking about the initiative taken by the university to help COVID-19 affected students, he added, "We are conducting examinations online and have also made provisions of awarding degrees online, for which earlier students had to visit the university".

"During this year’s Open Book Examination, the attendance was 95 percent, which was even more than the number of students who used to take examinations before the pandemic struck"

When asked about the reopening of physical classes in Delhi University colleges, he added that with the increase of Covid-19 pandemic cases in the country, the university is yet to make any decision on reopening classes for all UG and PG students. 

He added that the Delhi University is now waiting for Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines. With the release of college reopening guidelines, the final decision on the same will be made by the university.
