DU to Introduce 4-Year UG Program to produce Industry-Ready Graduates; Check Details Here

December 25, 2020: The University of Delhi will be re-launching the 4- year Undergraduate program to implement the execution of the National Education Policy 2020.

Delhi University - [DU], New Delhi had introduced this program earlier in 2014 but had to ditch it because of the protests and concerns raised by Teachers and Students.

Professor Pankaj Arora from Central Institute of Education (CIE), DU is set to launch the Four Year Undergraduate program (FYUP) again from the next academic session. He also belongs from the special committee responsible for implementing NEP 2020.

Arora says that the program will also include the internship for students to learn the current market requirements. The main priority for the UG traditional degree is to help students change their attitude from adolescent to a responsible citizen.

The previous launch of FYUP lacked policy and legal validation, but that has been improvised in the new structure of FYUP.

The proposed degree will not give an honors degree in three years, but students will have the advantage of receiving their certificate and diploma if they want to exit from the course after completion of 1st and 2nd year respectively.

English literature Professor, Sachin N from Dyal Singh Colleges offends NEP 2020 by saying it's a means to attack public-funded education.

He explained that FYUP has multiple exit points which will not produce the graduates as industry ready graduates. Since there is an extra year to cover, the overall cost of education will also increase gradually. Public-funded institutions are usually found by students for tier II or tier III structure, the move creating a bigger crisis than it did in 2014.

Principal Indrajeet Dagar, from College of Vocational Studies said that FYUP was only introduced in DU in the year 2014, whereas now it will be implemented as national policy. This is also an opportunity for the universities to improve their international rankings on the research output.
