Delhi University has recently made the decision to drop the plan of adding five supernumerary seats in undergraduate courses in each affiliated college.
The varsity took the decision after much controversy by students, teachers and a couple of colleges who statted that they cannot go ahead with it as the last date of admission is December 31 and there is no time left.
While the college principals affiliated with the Delhi University had welcomed the decision, many principals of the affiliated colleges did not approve their GBs, stating that DU had not issued specific guidelines for the process.
Hindu College principal, Anju Srivastava said, “It all happened in short notice and colleges require time to discuss with their governing bodies (GBs).”

A notification was released by DU on December 21 regarding adding 315 seats in 63 affiliated colleges as a one-time measure to allow registered students who couldn’t get admission due to any reason related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision was taken at the request of principals and members of the executive council, which is the highest decision-making body of the varsity.
All the principals were asked to submit the list of five candidates for further approval, as mentioned in the notification. However, as of now, no seats would be included for admission.
