On June 18, 2021, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia proposed that the upcoming Delhi Sports University will be the first of its kind to offer degree programs to students including Ph.D.
Delhi Sports University’s main goal will be to train and prepare interested students for the Olympics, and offer world-class facilities to them which will make India proud in the field of sports.
Referring to the Delhi Sports University, the Minister said, “Through Delhi Sports University, our vision is to train and prepare sportspersons who shall bring home 50 gold medals from the Olympics”.
He further added that as per the requirements, a sportsperson needs to choose another discipline in academic degree in order to apply for a decent job. However, now that will not be necessary.
“The university will make India proud in the field of sports, globally. It will have world-class facilities and provide exceptional training to budding sportspersons" he said.
Delhi Sports University will offer various degrees to students, up to PhD. Under the university guidance, sportspeople will be able to conferred degrees based on their performance in their field of sports, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia further added.
As per the official’s statements, a team has been formed to formulate the course structure of Delhi Sports University Courses at different levels. Delhi Sports University will make sports training and education a multi-dimensional education medium for all interested students.
With the programs offered by the sports university, a sportsperson will have the opportunity to apply for various employment opportunities. The university will also help boost health and wellbeing of the sportsperson, the officials added.
The aim of introducing Delhi Sports University is to prepare graduates in the field of sports. The university will help the sportsperson in getting their degree in other disciplines and will offer the same based on their sports overall performance, the Minister further added.
