In 2019, Delhi Assembly has passed the bill which states the establishment of Delhi Sports University. The university will aim to offer graduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees in the field of sports.

Referring to the initiative, Karnam Malleshwari said that the university should conduct talent hunts in schools in order to find hidden talent among the students.

There are many students who take interest in the various sports, but are not able to pursue the same due to the lack of facilities for the same.

She further added that the university aim will be to identify students who have excellent athletic skills and offer them the facilities required to pursue their choice of sports.

"We can use our existing infrastructure and coaches to begin sifting through our students to identify their athletic acumen. We will use the approach of going to schools, to children and players who are keen to strengthen their athletic acumen,” she added.

On the objective of Delhi Sports University, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia stated that the university provides students with world class sports facilities so that they can build their athletic talent.

The goal of the Delhi Sports University is to prepare international medal winning champions in at least 10 sports fields.
