Delhi Schools Likely to Remain Closed Until July 2021, Nursery Admission to be Scrapped for Academic Year 2021-22


December 23, 2020: With the ongoing pandemic situation, there are no such plans to reopen the Delhi Schools until July 2021. The Delhi government is also planning to scrap nursery admission for the academic year 2021-2022.

Delhi Deputy CM and Education Minister Manish Sisodia said that even if the government starts vaccinating by February, only a chunk will be vaccinated by July. So there are no possibilities to reopen Delhi schools before July 2021. 

Similarly, there is no possibility to take nursery admission in years 2021-22, but instead, the government is planning to admit two batches of nursery and kindergarten in 2022-23.

The government cannot risk the life of the youngest children for education and the virus intends to catch them faster. Delhi Schools have been directed to take in admissions for nursery and kindergarten students, but they will only be able to impart education in the year 2022-2023. 

The batches for nursery students that started in April this year, shifted online. Observing that nursery and kindergarten are elementary to a child's learning, it is mandatory for them to attend physical classes for impactful learning.

As of now, there is no official announcement by the Delhi Government. The last declaration was that the schools shall remain closed till December 31, 2020.

While neighboring states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have reopened their schools for class 10 and 12 students, Delhi Schools will be considering to reopen only after the availability of Covid-19 Vaccine.

Many private schools have shared their opinion to reopen Delhi schools for class 10 and 12 students for doubts clearing only. This partial re-opening will be more beneficial than the full capacity of students present in a class.
