Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on August 13, announced that the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) has finally received approval from the apex bodies for examination, certification, and equivalence with other recognized boards.
The move will finally enable the students from DBSE affiliated schools to take admissions in other boards. Moreover, the DBSE certificate will be valid for admission in Higher educational institutions.
The collaboration with international baccalaureate will open world-class opportunities for the children and also the DBSE is all set to change the learning assessment with the approvals of AIU and COBSE, Sisodia said.
The Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) is responsible for verifying genuineness/ recognition of school education boards in India issued a letter where it was mentioned that on the grant of COBSE membership to Delhi Board of School Education, Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations, the certificates issued by them will have equivalence to corresponding certificates of other member boards of COBSE
The Governing Council of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), an inter-university organisation that acts as a representative of universities in India, earlier approved the proposal of DBSE and resolved to offer equivalence to Delhi Board of School Education, Delhi, with CBSE and other recognised Boards of India.
With the approvals, the students passing out of the DBSE schools will now have universal recognition and acceptance, same as the certificates issued by the CBSE and other recognised boards. Even the mark statements and certificates issued by DBSE will be accepted by all the recognised boards and Indian universities.
Earlier, this year, the Delhi government had given a nod to the formation of the DBSE to move away from one time end of the year, rote-learning based examination system, instead of creating a framework of continuous assessment.

With the current academic session, around 30 schools are affiliated to the DBSE and in the next few years, all the government schools across Delhi will be affiliated to the DBSE, which has started running in partnership with the International Baccalaureate (IB). Further, the recognised private schools will have the option to affiliate themselves with the DBSE.
The Delhi government signed an agreement of collaboration with International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally recognised board with its presence in 5,500 schools in 159 countries. Sisodia said that the collaboration will assist DBSE to introduce international best practices in the Delhi schools and provide a world class capacity building program to its teachers.
Furthermore, the Delhi government has also commenced 20 Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSE) which aim to provide specialised education to students in the domains of their deep interest and aptitude. All SoSEs are also affiliated to the DBSE. Consequently, the students passing out of the DBSE schools will be treated on equal footing along with students passing out from other recognised boards.
