The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to use Blockchain Technology to secure board exams result documents of students. According to CBSE’s official statement, ‘Academic {BlockChain} Documents', or ABCD, employs the blockchain technology to ensure that academic documents are recorded / stored in a secure and tamper proof manner.
In collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for BlockChain Technology of National Informatics Centre, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), CBSE has come up with a solution to record, store and secure board exam result documents.
The academic documents can be accessed online in a trusted and confidential manner, which will simplify the process of assessing and verifying documents at the time of employment or admission. Meanwhile, the private institutions can verify the academic documents at the official board website, cbse.gov.in or at the ABCD page, cbse.certchain.nic.in.
As per the latest updates, with the help of blockchain technology, CBSE has made the digitally signed certificates of Classes 10th and 12th students available for the academic years 2019 to 2021. In the meantime, CBSE has decided to add certificates of the students from previous years in the upcoming months.
When new documents are released, a digital copy of the same will be sent to the blockchain system. The network managed by the NIC at its data centres uses “nodes” in the respective cities, Bengaluru, Pune and Jaipur.

It has been stated that the launch of the blockchain technology will overcome the verification and authenticity problems faced by the students during the time of admissions, jobs, and loans, as these documentation will be digitally saved.
Moreover, the Academic {BlockChain} Documents (ABCD) addresses the challenges and struggles related to the verification of documents produced by students.
The process of saving documents through blockchain technology ensures safety and puts an end to the dependency of third party verifications as the data is deposited with ‘cryptographic security’ which makes it permanent and identifiable.
