June 04, 2021: Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE has recently collaborated with Microsoft to introduce Coding and Data Science in schools from the academic year 2021-2022.

With the collaboration between CBSE and Microsoft, coding will be introduced in the course curriculum of students of classes 6th to 8th, while data science will be introduced in the course curriculum of classes 8th to 12th from the next academic year.
The coding, and data science curriculum will be included in the CBSE course curriculum as new skilling subjects as a means of offering excellent education to India's future generations.
Referring to the initiative, the Education Minister tweeted, “Under #NEP2020, we promised to introduce coding & data science in schools. Today, I'm happy to see #CBSE fulfilled the promise right in the session of yr 2021 itself. In association with @Microsoft, @cbseindia29 is empowering India's future generations with new-age skills. Kudos”.

Adding on, Navtez Bal, Executive Director, Public Sector, Microsoft India said, “Skills like coding and data science are the currency of the future. Including these skills in school, the curriculum will play a strong role in preparing India’s future workforce for the new world of work”.
Microsoft has designed supplementary handbooks in the coding, and data science domain for CBSE Class 6th to 8th students in accordance with NCERT pattern, and structure. The books are specially designed to build exposure to the ethical dimension and data science domain.
The course curriculum of the books mainly focuses on the building of critical thinking, problem-solving skills, new technology experience, and computational knowledge in students from an early age.
The subjects will be launched from the next academic year; 2021-2022, in accordance with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in all CBSE affiliated schools.
Chairman, CBSE, Manoj Ahuja said, “As we transition to a world that relies increasingly on technology, it is critical that we impart skills that prepare students and educators across the country to succeed in this digital world”.
“The new course curriculum on coding and data science will equip students with future-ready learning skills. This is an important step to enable self-reliance in our students and equip them with skills like problem-solving, logical thinking, collaboration, and design thinking that are critical for success.” he further added.
