Collegedunia Team: Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any).

Amulya: The WAT/GD are the next steps after one receives the interview call.

None of the top b schools treat this as an elimination round, but all of them can have an effect on one's Personal Interview if the document is referred.

The final evaluation for most b schools will, again, have a fair component attributed from WAT/GD.

Both of them test your analytical and structured thinking. While a WAT is a lot more about being able to condense your messages in a personal setting, the GDs throw you in open waters with other candidates to test your spoken skills along with your body language.

Collegedunia Team: What was the WAT/GD Topic?

Amulya: The topic given- Social Media, is it a boon or a bane?

Collegedunia Team: What was your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Amulya: I began by highlighting how as the scope of technology got bigger the world only got smaller and the access has grown tremendously. I followed by highlighting how social media has made the unthinkable possible and a few more supporting arguments before making a smooth transition to put more light on the negative aspects of social media. After presenting both the facts, I concluded the extempore with a somewhat balanced final statement.

Collegedunia Team: Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Amulya: My personal interview had 3 panellists, 2 professors from the Kolkata Campus and one panellist who seemed like an industry veteran (probably an alum). My interview began with P1 asking me about my basic details from the CV form that was submitted. P1 is a faculty in the IT department and was curious to understand my motivation to switch to an MBA after writing and engineering. The Alum panellist asked me if I had a preferred domain and who were the top players in that sector. My answer here was FMCG and the players like P&G, HUL etc.

I tripped on a few questions here like, Who was behind the White Revolution of India (Kurien Verghese from Amul), which family group owned the Britannia Group. I was able to answer the full form of P&G, the origins of HUL and so on. Lastly, P2, who is a very renowned faculty in the economics department, showed me a moneycontrol graph about the recent export trends of India and asked me to comment on it. I thought I answered them well but I also felt he expected a bit more. That was the end of my interview, I had a positive feeling but later as I over analyse my answers I got a little more nervous.

Collegedunia Team: Mention at least 5 questions that were asked in IIFT Kolkata Interview and how you responded to each of them?

Amulya: The questions asked during the Interview are:

Ques 1. Why pursue MBA after IT work ex?

Ques 2. What was your final year project?

Ques 3. Which field do you want to get into post your MBA?

Ques 4. Name some of the biggest FMCG brands?

Ques 5. Who led the White Revolution in India?

Ques 6. Who owns the Britannia Group?

Ques 7. What is the full form of P&G?

Ques 8. What is the full form and country of origin of HUL?

Collegedunia Team: Mention any three reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Amulya: I had received just one call from IIFT so I did not have any options. However, in my first attempt, I had skipped joining IIM Udaipur because I knew I could do better than that.

Collegedunia Team: What was the reason for you not converting other colleges?

Amulya: I missed out on the JBIMS seat by 2 seats after having scored a 99.92 percentile in the MBA CET.

I scored a 64 percentile in DILR of CAT, hence could not receive any top calls from CAT after a score of 97.95 percentile

I messed up the DM section of XAT with a 31 percentile and with an overall percentile of 96 in XAT, it was not enough.
