Dr. Aruna Mathur is the Head of the Department of Education at the IIS University, Jaipur. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Education from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, Rajasthan and has eight years of experience as a Teacher Educator. Her research focuses on the Status of Four Skills-Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creative thinking in Prospective Teachers.
What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students in IIS University?
“To promote excellence in teaching and learning practices for pupils”
My primary responsibility is to focus on the growth of the department and faculty who are concerned about pupils. I undertake the promotion of teaching-learning practices excellently on campus. My role for students includes managing admission, instruction, progress, and examination. Apart from that, I need to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences beyond the classroom environment. It ensures they become grown-ups and professional teachers.
How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty members?
“Focus on open communication and democratic decision making on campus”
We try to impart open and clear communication on campus. Our campus focuses on making democratic decisions on all matters. Developing a culture of cooperation and respect maintains healthy relations on campus.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach to subjects and make them industry-oriented?
“Promote the exchange of ideas, give internship programs for students, and update syllabus”
One of the mandatory components of the curriculum is internship programs, where students get an opportunity to link theory with practice. We promote reflective thinking and reflective processes. I also try to keep myself aware and update others on developments and changes in the education field. We actively exchange ideas, information, and expertise within the Department. Our campus maintains networking and partnerships with industry experts. We update the syllabus from time to time with approvals from our Board of Studies.
How do you strategize the curriculum, and how often is it updated to suit student requirements?
“Develop knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for education by updating the curriculum”
Our curriculum is responsive and flexible, designed to reflect the diversity of students in the classroom. It emphasizes student outcomes by developing their knowledge, skills, behavior, and attitude essential in the field of education. The curriculum is discussed every academic year as per our needs.
What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?
“Prepare students for Government exams and provide a good number of placements for them”
Most of our students are placed well in good schools. Some other pupils are pursuing higher education. We prepare them for Government exams. I am quite satisfied with what we have achieved on campus so far.
How do you help your student cope with the highly competitive world?
“Encourage students to face challenges with confidence and courage”
Our campus insists on quality, excellence, and professionalism. We encourage students to think out of the box and face all challenges with confidence. Faculty members also impart social strategy instruction and self-regulation techniques to pupils.
Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the students' skills or expose them to real-world challenges?
“Internships, cultural or sports activities are available for students”
Most of our students are encouraged to participate in university-level programs. They can also organize programs at the school level. We provide internships and cultural or sports activities for pupils. All these programs expose them to face real-world challenges.
What challenges have you faced to uplift the quality of education in IIS University?
“Prepare teachers and students to tide over the practical challenges”
We faced some challenges in maintaining quality education during the covid-19 crisis. Additionally, our students and teachers had to see through the practical challenges of implementing the NEP-2020 policy at the school. We try our best to overcome all these difficulties.

What approaches do you bring apart from the curriculum to train the students?
“To set individual goals and support pupils to achieve a good career”
We understand that each student learns differently. Our campus focuses on setting individual goals for students in the curriculum. We always support them in reaching those goals. Apart from the curriculum, we facilitate their understanding of where to look for resources. It helps to keep them engaged in learning and motivated to continue on this path.
What advice would you like to give for students to have a prosperous career ahead?
“Be good to everyone, work hard and achieve your goal”
Pupils need to work hard and do their best. Keep learning, listen and read more. Do not compare your life with that of others. Each one has a different path to follow. Be good to everyone, and always be ready to face life as it comes.
