Students of School of Petroleum Management (SPM) at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) are celebrating as it is raining placements with great packages. In the first round, as many as 46 students of 2015 - 19 received job offers, out of which 11 got the highest package of Rs. 19.2 lakh by ONGC and the average salary is also higher than the previous year.

For this session, around 84 students participated in the placement process and 38 companies visited the campus. 19 more companies will visit the campus for the second round. The second highest salary of Rs. 16.6 lakh per annum has been offered to 3 students by Protiviti, a US-based global consultancy firm.

Other companies that made offers include Reliance Group, Torrent Gas, Larsen & Toubro, Torrent Power, Adnani Power, Wipro, Infosys and many more.

Last year, the highest salary offered was Rs. 18.41 lakh per annum by ONGC.
The average salary increased from Rs. 8.1 lakh to Rs. 8.7 lakh this time.

“Students have received job offers in the areas of production, drilling, cementing and reservoir,” said Sircar. He also added, “Hiring in oil exploration and production is seeing an upward trend. Since we are the only university in Gujarat in petroleum studies, we expect more global companies and private players to take part in the placement and make good offers.”

TP Singh, Director of SPT, PDPU, said “Internship always helps in the placement market. Also, visits to the college by the industry experts, industry contact programs and international oil and gas conferences make it easier for the students to choose their area of interest and expertise. The credit for good placements this year also goes to the university as well as our committed faculty members.”

Students say on the Job Offers

Sachin Nambiar, who was among the students offered the highest package, said, “As a student of PDPU, I could take part in the International Oil and Gas Conference held in Delhi last year which helped me to find the domain of my interest. I had also interned at ONGC in 2018. I am thrilled to receive this package.”

Nahid Sheikh, who too got placed at ONGC, said, “I had received a travel grant from the university to present a research paper on geothermal energy at Stanford University. That and the exposure that I got during my internship at ONGC helped me get placed the reservoir area there.”

Tirth Raval, another happily placed student said, I have been placed as an analyst at Protiviti in Abu Dhabi where I will be focusing on internal audit and risk analysis of the firm and energy companies in the Middle East and Asia. I did my internship at Well Stimulation Services in ONGC. The internship helped me understand various stimulation jobs done by the national oil company to increase production.”
