Dr.K.Prakasan is the Principal of PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has 25 years of experience in the teaching sector. His specialized areas include Advanced Materials, CAD/CAM/CAE, Manufacturing, Metal Forming, Metal Castings, Metal Matrix Composites and PDM/PLM. He published various research papers in National and International journals, guided PhDs, several PG and UG projects.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I have excellent academic training from the premier institutions of the country. I also have good work experience from top public sectors of Govt. of India. These helped me keep connected with the education sector. 

What is your philosophy of leadership and describe it?

My philosophy of leadership lies in being participative. I believe that solving problems scientifically is better than solving by trial and error. Participation reinforces the elements of value chain.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying from PSG College of Technology?

“Good exposure to real life situations arising from industry connections are available to students and research scholars”

We strategize the key programs of our school. Our campus understands the changes at the national and international levels, leverage digitalisation and stress learning of science. From studying here, students gain good exposure to real life situations from industry interactions. We help them understand the values of life. We try to ensure inclusion of the best practices of industry by meaningful revision and introduction of new ideas in curriculum that reflect societal contexts. Strong alumni network is a special feature that provides several learning opportunities and support to students.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities are to the University and the students?

Our roles and responsibilities lie in preparing the human resources for future requirements by providing the best working conditions and learning opportunities. We follow the guidelines of Government of Tamil Nadu, AICTE and other regulatory bodies in all our academic activities.

When you first came to this institute, what was your vision for PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and how far along in implementing that vision?

My vision for the Institute is evolved by being mentored by top management of the Institute. I still have a lot more to do. Our Institute’s top priority is to be a center for lifelong learning and we are working for that.

What do you see as your College’s greatest strengths?

The clear vision and commitment of PSG Management is the greatest strength. Our college’s greatest strengths lie in commitment at all levels. We deliver what we commit for. We transform the lives of those who are from villages and are not fortunate to have the comforts of life. We would like people to know that the college cares for students to achieve the best in their life but could not get opportunities early in their life.

What are some plans that you’re currently designing for the College international affairs and Students?

We have several MOUs with universities abroad for the benefit of students and teachers. Our campus plans for students to visit foreign universities, and spend one semester there. Research is to be carried out in collaboration with industries engaged in socially relevant services/product development.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore?

We keep meeting people and discuss issues regularly. Communication without ambiguity helps us establish a healthy relation and environment in Institute. Synergy among all stakeholders and care by the management towards employees keep a healthy and buoyant ecosystem.

I suggest students develop passion in what they learn or do. Integrity is the key to a high level of satisfaction. They can achieve whatever they want in life through hard work with integrity.
