What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
“Inclusive leadership has been my philosophy since the beginning”
I have believed that one should lead from the front and be a part of the team. It is important to understand the challenges of the team from the perspective of team members. I am of the opinion that the leader has to inspire members of the team so that everyone can aspire to be an effective leader with sensitivity.
How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your institution?
“Your students are the ones who vouch for you”
Having held several portfolios within the Institution, I have felt that the students are the best spokesperson. Therefore it is important that you create a product that is multitalented, who can take the institution to greater heights. Apart from the usual streams of Medicine i.e M.B.BS, M.D, D.M the institution also runs several programs which are for the up-gradation of skills of Doctors, Paramedical workers, and their institutions. The key to marketing is students themselves, research, Publications complemented by satisfied patients who become your spokesperson.
“MAMC has implemented Post Graduate Diploma in Maternal and Child Health along with Post Graduate fellowship in HIV Medicine in collaboration with CMC Vellore and School of Tropical Medicine. The department is also implementing Postgraduate Diploma in Geriatric Medicine in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University.”
Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
“Getting rid of any existing barriers through initiatives”
Medical Universities have to work with a vision and mission of improving the quality of education and undertake systems reforms from time to time. This has to be without differentiation of caste, creed, religion, or their socio-economic status. I believe in an inclusive society that should focus on 3600 development. As India is very diverse with different languages and cultures so one has to sensitize fellow colleagues and students to complement each other’s strengths. Time to time different initiatives can be taken which can be both academic and non- academic to overcome barriers and challenges between students of different races and economic backgrounds.

“To make research an integral part of the curriculum”
The top priority of the University should have a strong focus on Medical education keeping in view global health security. The University should strive towards becoming an international hub of learning through collaborations at the national and international levels. The high-quality scientific research which is interdisciplinary and implemented at the local and global level should be promoted. The University should be open towards innovations. The products should be rapidly patented. The research also should be shared and widely disseminated. The teaching-learning techniques should be digitalized and at par with the global universities.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
“Have a defining purpose and work for it”
The current youth and aspiring students should have a clear vision and mission. They should not be bogged down with the stress of education. They should be able to make the right decisions for themselves and do not have the unnecessary burden of race as each one of them is unique. The highs and lows are part of life. Aspiring students should be good councillors and have good communication skills. The key to success as a medical school aspirant is to stay with a positive frame of mind. You should be able to have fun, be creative, and be loving, caring, and sharing. Choose what fulfilss you and what sustains you as there is something besides medicine as well. You can serve humanity in many ways.
