Bihar Schools to Reopen for Class 9 Onwards from Jan 04; Read Full Report Here


Bihar Schools and Coaching Institutions will reopen from January 04, for students of class 9 and above. After the imposed lowdown, the institutions will be reopening straight after 9 months, with all the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines and protocols.

On December 19, 2020, the school reopening decision was taken by the crisis management group after consultation with the Education department and other stakeholders. 

The officials informed that private schools and coaching institutes will be solely responsible for following COVID-19 guidelines and sanitizing their premises.

Principal Secretary of State Education Department, Sanjay Kumar stated, the crisis management group has decided to reopen schools for class 9 upwards from January 04 with all safety measures. 

He further said same will be applicable for coaching institutions and schools will have to strictly abide by SOPs issued by the union ministry.

He also mentioned that an elaborate guideline regarding reopening of educational institutes will be issued soon. Review meetings will be conducted after the first 15 days of reopening phase and if all goes well, lower classes will be resumed later in the same manner.

Officials reported that two face masks will be provided to students of government schools free of cost. The private hostels shall also reopen after reopening of schools and coaching centres as thousands of students took accommodation in them.

All educational institutions in the state including government and private schools and coaching institutions are shut down across the nation since March 15 due to nationwide COVID-19 precautionary lockdown.

However, Bihar government had allowed reopened schools for Classes 9 to 12 solely for doubt clearance since September 28, 2020.

Hindustani Awam Morcha (HWM) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi tweeted thanking the CM Nitish Kumar and state education minister Ashok Choudhary for reopening of schools.

Meanwhile, PSCWA (Private Schools and Children Welfare Association) welcomed the government's decision.

The PSCWA national president Shamael Ahmad said, “Schools fraternity heaved a sigh of relief after the government's decision. Private schools will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. We will also provide online counselling students before reopening for assuring adherence to safety protocols.

Association of Independent Schools, Bihar welcomed the decision and also put forth the gratitude towards the government for taking into consideration their repeated requests.

Association’s director CB Singh stated that the government took the ideal decision as the board exams are approaching nearer. The regular classes will help the students to practice and perform better in the board exams.

Founder member of Coaching Associations of Bihar, Sudhir Singh stated that over 3500 coaching centres in the state were shut down since March and this will also help the students to cover their syllabus and will get face to face guidance from academicians.
