Bengal Government: CM Mamta Banerjee to Provide Tabs to 9.5 Lakh Students to Facilitate Online Education


Bengal Government: On December 03, CM Mamta Banerjee announced that the state Government of Bengal has decided to provide tabs to around 9.5 lakh students from government and government-aided schools.

Banerjee stated at the state secretariat that students are suffering due to the widespread pandemic. She added that the government will provide tabs to 9.5 lakh students in class 12 from government schools, government-aided schools, and madrasahs. She said that computers will also be provided for every secondary school to promote online education during this pandemic.

There are around 636 madrasahs, around 14,000 higher secondary schools, and around 36,000 government & government-aided secondary schools in the state.

CM said that many students are not able to follow the online classes because of the lack of facilities and that the provided tabs would also help the students while pursuing graduation.

The CM has also announced 3% DA for 10 lakh employees of state government from January 01, 2021, considering the crucial 2021 Bengal assembly elections. This would cost the state exchequer INR 2200 crore. 

Later during the day in another programme, Banerjee said that Information Technology (IT) firms in the state have experienced 133% growth and IT exports have risen by 175%.

Banarjee in that programme also said that several more investments are arriving. She said that they are done with completing 20 proposals for setting up IT offices on December 01, at Bengal Silicon Valley with a proposed investment of INR 3,000 crore. She said that the state would directly employ 9000 IT professionals.

The state of West Bengal presently has over 2 lakh IT professionals in over 1500 IT companies including TATA Consultancy Services, IBM, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, and many more.

Banarjee informed about a series of expansion programmes of some top IT firms in the state where she said that Wipro and Nxtra Data of Bharti Airtel have come up with an expansion plan of INR 500 crores and INR 350 crores respectively.

TCS is planning to increase its employment from the current 44,000 to around 61,000 and sooner their operation in West Bengal is going to be larger than the one in Bengaluru.

The CM also said that Cognizant Technology Solutions is also expected to plan further expansion whereas ITC Infotech has almost finished their project in New Town and is supposed to employ around 3000 IT professionals there.

IT services giant Infosys will start construction of a proposed software development centre in the state by July 2021 and are allotted 50 acres of land.

Mamta Banerjee concluded by saying that our youth will no longer have to roam around in other states for employment, they can work in their own state.
