The anonymous source further added that the residential institutions or hostels, be it private or government is most probably not going to open from January 01, except for the final year students.
Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to approve the SOP soon, but the government might come with a few last-minute changes.
The official stated that the re-opening of on-campus classes for students was thought over on every alternate day, but taking into consideration the health concerns of students of lower primary classes, the government will have to make a crucial call.
Though the schools and colleges had reopened formally from November 02 for students of class 6 onwards, the students of colleges and universities faced difficulties as hostels for all students had not reopened yet.
Sources state that SOPs only permit reopening of hostels for final year students, the rest of the students will have to take care of their respective accommodation facilities.
Online classes are being continued in all educational institutes, including those enrolled in technical education in engineering colleges. Officials are tensed over the delay in reopening of residential institutions like the engineering colleges where practical classes need to be attended by the students.

The primary teachers have demanded the reopening of classes for the lower class students as they are not getting familiar with the online classes like the grown-ups.
Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association General Secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami stated that on November 05, they had a meeting with the state education minister and they had raised the demand of resuming the offline classes at least for students of classes 4 and 5.
He mentioned that the smaller kids are not able to handle mobile phones or computers so bringing them back to school has become really important.
Further, he added that lower class students are also forgetting lessons taught to them before closing of schools, and if an urgent decision is not taken, the dropout rate this year will surely rise.
