According to recent reports, the Assam government has officially decided to eliminate the 75 percent quota for state board students from urban colleges.
The Assam government had introduced the quota for students graduating from schools that are affiliated to the state board, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). But it was withdrawn when the parents and students tried to protest against it.
However, the Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the reservation for AHSEC students will continue in colleges in the state’s rural areas.
Pegu stated that 75% reservation of seats for Assam board learners will not be appropriate in urban spaces, as the learners from all boards will have to compete for a place in degree programs, which will be entirely based on the learner's merit.

Meanwhile, the education department authorities shared their perspectives saying that most institutions such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the private Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), affiliated to boards outside Assam are in urban areas.
As per the reports by Pragnews, some of the popular schools have stated that they're yet to be receiving the official notification from the education administration.
