Assam Class 10th and Class 12th board exams 2021 have been officially scheduled to commence from August 1 to 15, 2021, as the state health department has refused to conduct the exams before July 2021.
Ranoj Pegu, the state education minister chaired a high-level meeting with various stakeholders at Assam Secretariat on June 8, where the decision to skip the conventional mode of Assam Board Examinations 2021 was taken.

Pegu said that if board exams 2021 are supposed to be conducted before September 5, then it can be conducted between August 1 to 15, 2021. Also, the exam modalities and exam schedule will be notified to the students as soon as possible.
To prevent any academic loss of the students, the Indian government has insisted on completing the final examination process on or before September 5, 2021. Further, pegu stated that an official notification regarding the exams will be notified within the next 10 days. However, the final decision will be taken by the Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

After a high-profile meeting with the Senior Government Officials, Representative of the student bodies, and teachers' organizations, Pegu told the media that the State Board Exams will not be conducted as per the conventional mode like in the past. It will be conducted for fewer subjects and total marks of the papers will be curtailed. Also, the decision regarding the evaluation will be declared soon.
Although the State Health department has apprised that the Covid-19 situation will normalise in July, it won't be a convenient time to conduct the exams amidst the threat of virus infection, the minister said.

Furthermore, all the students, exam invigilators, including the drivers and others who will be involved in the exam process and those who are above the age of 18 should be vaccinated on priority basis. However, vaccination for the students under the age of 18 is not possible as ICMR has not yet recommended the vaccines, Pegu added.
One of the major participants of the meeting, the All Assam Students Union (Aasu) demanded the government to intimate the modalities of the exams, and appealed to conduct the board exams in a simplified manner where the student's interest is safeguarded, said the Chief Adviser, Samujjal Bhattacharya.
It was speculated that the board exams will be held for 3 subjects via online mode. However, the decision regarding this matter wasn't concluded in the meeting. Meanwhile, the Aasu and All Bodo students union delegation will again have a meeting with the Board Of Secondary Education, Assam and Assam Higher Secondary Council in the upcoming days to resolve a few issues.
