The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are inviting ASEAN scholars to apply for PhD fellowships in order to strengthen the deep and historic ties between India and ASEAN.
IITs thrives because of their high-quality education and stringent admissions requirements. If you are chosen, you will be able to finish your PhD with funding from the Government of India. For up to five years of their PhD programme, they will be paid a monthly stipend and an annual research grant.

- If applying as a new candidate, you have to register yourself first
- Once the registration is done you have to login into the portal and proceed with your application process
- Submit all the necessary documents and correct information
ASEAN-DIA Fellowship 2021: Selection Procedure
- Apply online through the ASEAN-DIA Fellowship portal.
- During the online application process, select the IITs you want to attend as well as the specific program/area of study.
- Each IIT you apply to has its own admissions process, which includes application screening, shortlisting, and a possible online interview.
- This portal displays the final consolidated results based on the preferences in your application.
ASEAN-DIA Fellowship 2021: Criteria for Selection
ASEAN PhD Fellowship by Default Academic score requirement = 6/10 (60%) (calculated proportionally for other scales)
ASEAN PhD Fellowship English Test Requirement by Default: There is no requirement for English language certification.
Recommendation letters must be at least two in number.
ASEAN-DIA Fellowship 2021: How to Get Visa?
Eligibility
Indian Missions/Posts issue student visas for a period of five years or the duration of the course, whichever is shorter.
To international students who are coming to India to pursue regular and full-time academic studies.
International students who are coming for industrial training, summer projects, and internships.
For students considering admission or taking admission tests, a provisional student visa is valid for six months.
Applicants must have proof of admission to a full-time regular academic course at one of India's IITs, as well as evidence of financial support.
In order to be admitted to a medical or paramedical course, the applicant must also have a "No Objection Certificate" from the Ministry of Health.
The applicant's spouse and dependent family members must apply for an Entry Visa (not a Tourist Visa). Its expiration date will be the same as the primary visa holder's.
Visa Procedure
The visa application must be completed online at www.indianvisaonline.gov.in.
After filling out the applicant's details/other details, a printout of the application must be taken and personally submitted at the Indian Mission counter, along with supporting documents such as the original admission letter from IIT, last education certificate, and so on.
The consular officer may request additional documents from applicants if necessary.
Passport: It should be valid for at least six months.
Photographs: Two recent colour, matte (not glossy), passport-size photographs of the applicant in a front pose against a white background are required. One should be pasted in the designated location, and the other may be stapled with the application form. Please upload the photograph to the internet.
Signatures: Applicants should sign in the signature box located beneath the photograph box. If the applicant is a minor and unable to sign, one of the parents may do so.
While submitting the application, the applicant's biometrics will be collected.

About ASEAN-DIA Fellowship
On the 25th anniversary of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit in New Delhi, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, announced the Doctoral Fellowship in India for ASEAN in the presence of the leaders of all ten ASEAN countries. Under this Program, 1000 ASEAN citizens will be awarded fellowships to pursue an integrated Ph.D. at a prestigious Indian Institute of Technology of their choice. Each fellowship has a maximum term of five years. You will be paid a monthly stipend of INR 31,000/- for the first two years and INR 35,000/- for the following three years. A study grant of up to INR 170,000/- is available for research expenses such as travel, books, and contingency expenditure.
