AP Govt. to Introduce English Medium in All Degree Colleges in 2021; Details Here


The Andhra Pradesh government has officially decided to introduce English medium in all the degree colleges across the state from this academic year 2021-22, according to a TOI report.

With the introduction of the English medium, all the colleges will alleviate and enhance the student's career prospects and anticipation, said the officials. 

This year, a total of 2.62 lakh students have applied for admissions in the degree colleges in the state. Out of which 65,989 students had taken admission for various courses into Telugu medium. 

As a result, only 75% of the total students had opted for English medium, even before the state government had decided to make it compulsory from the academic year 2021-22, the report added. 

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education is now working to introduce bilingual textbooks in the curriculum to roll out the decision of the state government.

As per the reports, it will be introduced as a unique characteristic of curated lessons in both English and Telugu medium in the same textbooks for the students. 

Moreover, these textbooks will contain one page of English lessons and the next page will consist of lessons in Telugu that would be hassle-free for the students to transition from Telugu to English medium. 

Further, the state government officials are planning to introduce a special training programme for the students in all the degree colleges across the state to improve their communication skills in English language and writing skills. 

As per the reports, the government officials have noticed that according to a study of Cambridge University in 2016, around 90% of the employers who hire candidates from India believe that their communication skills in English language to be relevant and proficient for their companies.
