Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Gives Nod to Form Medical Education and Research Corp; Details here


On Friday, December 18, 2020, Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved the proposal to set up AP Medical Education and Research Corporation (APMERC) in the states. 

AP Medical Education and Research Corporation (APMERC) will aim to take up the construction of medical, and nursing colleges in AP state, along with the construction of 16 new Medical Colleges.

Referring to the approval of the proposal, Information and Public Relations Minister Perni Venkataramaiah stated that the medical and nursing colleges in Andhra Pradesh state, along with 16 new colleges will be modified under APMERC.

Additionally, when asked about the finance, Deputy Chief Minister (Health) A K K Srinivas stated that modalities are now being taken care of by the members. 

Andhra Pradesh Government has announced that 16 MBBS Colleges and Nursing Colleges will be set up in various districts of the state. 

One Medical College will be established in the tribal area of Paderu in the Visakhapatnam district, while another one in the Chief Minister’s hometown, Pulivendula.

State Government of Andhra Pradesh is expected to establish medical colleges in 25 Lok Sabha Constituencies, for which the location for colleges has already been confirmed in various places. 

Government is now planning on collecting funds for the construction work of medical colleges in the state. The estimated budget for each medical college construction is said to be INR 500 crore.

Referring to the establishment of medical colleges in the states, officials stated that income from the sale of liquor, and additional taxes will be used for medical college construction. 

Taxes that have been collected in recent months will be escrowed as a guarantee for bank loans, which is secured by AP Medical Education and Research Corporation, the official further added.
