Andhra Government Releases the Revised Curriculum of Regular UG Programme Under National Education Policy (NEP)


Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh stated yesterday i.e. on January 05 that the subject expert committees have revised the outcome-based curriculum of regular undergraduate programmes under the National Education Policy (NEP).

Suresh stated that the honors program with BA, B.Com, B.Sc, etc. will be changed to four years along with adding skill enhancement courses, skill development courses, skill courses, research, and ten months mandatory internship to the courses.

He also informed the media about the achievements of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) in the academic year 2020-21.

Suresh said that the curriculum for the engineering programme is also revised. B.Tech. Honors degree with a mandatory internship of 10 months is introduced with minor degrees. 

Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) have planned along different tracks for minor degrees.

He added that the motive behind the efforts is to build up a Quality Assessment Cell to organize academic audit in colleges and further build Internal Quality Assessment Cells in all colleges and universities.

The minister further reported that the plan for four new Universities has been proposed. The four new Universities are as followed: Skill Development University (Tripura), Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam University (Ongole), Sri Gurajada Apparao University (Vizianagaram), and Tribal University.

YSR Architecture and Fine Arts University is established at Kadapa and the Tribal Engineering College at Kurupam will function from the academic year 2021-22. A cluster University is established at Kadapa under RUSA.

He informed that the Confederation of India Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises, Bangalore has entered into a Memorandum of Unity with APSCHE to develop technology laboratories and incubation centres for noble, innovative, and value-added products, process, or service particularly in the advancement in Technology, Management and Applied Engineering and associated areas of implementation across Universities and associated institutions.

APSCHE has entered into another MoU with National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi to promote research qualities in universities and colleges. 

The education minister stated that the universities are identified for transformation into Multi-Discipline Education and Research Universities (MERU). The five Universities that will be transformed in the first phase are Andhra University, Sri Venkateswara University, JNTU Kakinada, JNTU Anantapuram, and RGUKT.

In the second phase, three more universities that will be transformed are Acharya Nagarjuna University, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, and Padmavati Mahila University. 

The minister said that related notices were circulated in 247 colleges that have not attained affiliation from respective Universities or have experienced less than 25% admissions from the last three years.

He stated that an inquiry committee was formed and it has submitted its report. The report says that permissions to 48 private unaided degree colleges and programmes respective of 61 private unaided degree colleges were withdrawn from the academic session 2020-21.
