Amazon Future Engineer Program to be Launched in India in 2021; Check Scope, Details Here


January 02, 2021: Amazon’s Future Engineer Program 2021, which is an initiative to fund education in Computer Science, is set to launch in India in 2021. The program’s main objective is to enable underprivileged children to learn about computers and to code. 

Additionally, Amazon is now recruiting a manager to lead and launch Amazon’s Future Engineer Program 2021 in India. The manager will be in charge of working with NGOs, government officials, and candidates of all ages and nativity.

“The initial research for Amazon Future Engineer in India is currently underway and we look to the chosen candidate to dive deep into operationalizing the program to what is relevant for India and the student needs,” the company said in its posting. 

Amazon’s Future Engineer Program debuted in the USA in January 2019 that provides aid to around 5,000 schools and 550,000 students in the country.

Amazon Future Engineer

Earlier, Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos visited the country in January 2020 and entailed an investment of $1 billion (roughly Rs. 7,319 crores) to help digitize MSMEs. The company has committed to invest an additional over $6.5 billion (roughly Rs. 47,586 crores). 

By 2025, Amazon aims to create one million jobs in the country. Amazon’s interests in the education space were first witnessed in July 2020. The company had launched the JEE Ready app, which was later renamed Amazon Academy. 

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) recorded that India has 1.5 million schools and 250 million children incentivizing Amazon’s interest in the education sector.

Amazon is now looking to expand its e-commerce business in India by investing Rs 700 crores in its Indian subsidiary. The company is also looking forward to kick-starting its newer models like home delivery of liquor during the lockdown. 

On a similar note, MNCs like Google, and Facebook had followed in close footsteps. Facebook had earlier invested in Edu-tech start-up, Unacademy to launch a program on digital safety and augmented reality. 

Google invested in another Edu-tech company Cuemath and partnered with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), to train 1 million teachers in India in digitized learning. For the same, Google has also launched apps like G Suite for Education and Google Classroom.
