Allahabad University PhD: New UGC Guidelines to be Implemented from 2022-23


New Delhi: Allahabad University (AU) PhD aspirants will have to abide by the new guidelines compiled by the University Grants Commission (UGC) from the academic session 2022-23.

As of now, Allahabad University will follow the previous year guidelines to fill the vacant PhD seats for 2021-22 academic session. The university is scheduled to hold admissions against the vacant seats at its main campus and affiliated colleges, now. 

Therefore, the new UGC guidelines for PhD aspirants who haven’t cleared National Eligibility Test (NET) or are not eligible for JRF, will not be implemented at AU. 

Allahabad University PhD Admission 2022: Revised Guidelines

There are certain changes that have to be made by AU once the UGC guidelines are implemented. The rules are as mentioned below:

Allahabad University will have to reserve 60% of the vacant seats of PhD courses for candidates who have cleared NET or managed to bag JRF, as stated by the AU officials. The remaining 40% seats will have to be filled by conducting Combined Research Entrance Test (CRET)

Currently, Allahabad University PhD Admission for the academic session 2021-22 through CRET is ongoing. Interested and eligible candidates can apply till May 16, 2022. 

The UGC has sent a proposal containing all these rules to all the central universities and AU has already begun the necessary preparations, as confirmed by the Public Relation Officer of AU, Professor Jaya Kapoor. 

Candidates can apply for the remaining 614 vacant seats of 41 subjects. Among these, 227 seats are at AU and the rest 387 seats are in the affiliated colleges. The Department of Chemistry includes the maximum number of seats, i.e., 62 seats. Subjects such as Urdu, Persian, Agriculture, Botany and Rural Technology, have no seats available. 

Applicants who have already qualified NET and JRF will also have to appear in CRET for admission to the PhD courses. During the level 2 of CRET, i.e. Personal Interview, additional 3 marks will be given to NET qualified students and 5 marks will be given to JRF qualified applicants.
