All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE), the technical education regulator has introduced an M.Tech in Defence Technology programme on July 8, 2021 through the virtual mode. The programme is being introduced as a vision to include defence technology education.
AICTE has also taken to Twitter to announce the launch of M.Tech in Defence Technology program, by AICTE Chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe and Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO G. Satheesh Reddy at 4 pm today, i.e on July 8, 2021.

AICTE MTech Course: Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have pursued graduation in the following streams are eligible to apply:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Aeronautical engineering
- Applied Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Applied Electronics and
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Chemical Technology Chemical engineering
- Computer Science & Engineering
- Computer and Communication Engineering Computer Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Engineering and Applications
Candidates from other allied fields are also eligible to apply for the M.Tech course. The classes for the course will be held both online and offline as per requirement. The New MTech Course in Defence Technology by AICTE will be mentoring students from academic institutes/ universities as well as from DRDO labs or industries for conducting experiments.
M.Tech in Defence Technology: Course Overview
M.Tech in Defence Technology is a four-semester programme with 80 credits. It has six specializations with semester 1 having a common curriculum. Courses will vary as per the specialization from semester 2. Semester 3 and 4 will be focussing on finishing the dissertation.
Syllabi for AICTE’s M.Tech in Defence Technology
This M.Tech course would be offered in specializations including combat vehicle engineering, aerospace technology, communication systems and sensors, directed energy technology, naval technology and high energy materials technology.
The course will be offered at all institutes affiliated to AICTE. The main objective of this MTech programme is to motivate students to imbibe an interest in defense and do further research in the same or join defense industries.
