AICTE Directs Institutes to Provisionally Admit CBSE Private, Patrachar Students in UG Courses; Details Here

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) on Friday has instructed the higher educational institutes to not deny admission to students whose class 12 results have not been declared. These students include CBSE private category, patrachar and second compartment students.

In other words, these CBSE private, patrachar, and second compartment students will have to sign an undertaking form stating that they will submit their class 12 scores within a week after the results' announcement.

The member secretary of AICTE, Rajive Kumar, said that the provision is only applicable for admissions that are being done based on the students’ performance in National-level Entrance Exams such as JEE or state-level admission tests.

Further, Kumar added that this is not the first time that the AICTE has approved provisional admissions. Because the exception was launched in 2020 for MBA admissions when some of the universities couldn't announce their UG results.

He said that the council is facing an unfortunate situation, where no method would work fool-proof and that the council needs to create strategies that would minimise the loss of students.

The AICTE has also made some changes in the eligibility criteria for engineering admissions, that would be applicable from the academic year 2021-22. The new criteria is that studying mathematics and physics in class 12 is no longer required to pursue Bachelor of Engineering (B.E)and B.Tech courses in the colleges. Additionally the students will be able to select a combination of any three out of the total 14 listed subjects.

It was also notified that despite the provisional admissions, students will have to satisfy the minimum course specific requirements. Post the results declaration, If a student fails to achieve minimum passing marks in the class 12th subjects , then their admission will be directly canceled.

Meanwhile, the technical education regulator has informed all the heads of universities or deemed to be universities or institutions to implement the same and display it on their respective notice boards or website with an immediate effect.
