Ques. How is Pondicherry University for an MBA in tourism?

● Top Answer By Vivan Sridhar on 29 Sept 21

Ans. The Department of Tourism Studies of the Pondicherry University offers an MBA in Tourism & Travel Management. It is one of the rarest courses in India and the course here is actually pretty good.  You will have a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) where you can choose certain “Soft core” subjects offered by the department apart from the “Hard core” subjects which are compulsory for the course completion. There are mid semester, end semester as well as internal assessment exams.  A 40:60 ratio weightage is given to the mid-semester and internal assessment exam to the end semester exam.  You need to achieve at least 40% in the end semester and 50% on aggregate to pass the subject. The department organizes two tours each year; a 5-7 day, Eco-tour and a 10-15 days national tour.  Apart from that there are various field visits during your coursework as well.  World Tourism Day is also celebrated with much flamboyance each year. Overall I would say that it is a very good course with lots of practical knowledge and experience. The faculty are also knowledgeable and offer very good insights into the industry. The exposure and experience you will get here is really very nice.Read more

Ques. Is it worth to do tourism and hospitality management course from IIM Sirmaur for the sake of IIM tag?

● Top Answer By Divya Pandey on 19 Jan 23

Ans. One very important aspect that people forget while choosing colleges is the leader under which the college performs. Without effective leadership, any new IIM will become a worthless B School. One such example is IIM Trichy. IIM Trichy prospered under the leadership of Director Sri Prafulla Agnihotri who made Trichy what it is today. He constructed it from scratch. Through his relentless efforts, he was able to attract top professors and build a sound faculty base. He managed to provide the best through the temporary campus itself. The same person Director Sri Prafulla Agnihotri is now leading IIM Sirmaur so I can say with conviction that if not immediately, then gradually Sirmaur’s brand name will improve magnificently in the years to come. So surely it is worth joining IIM Sirmaur and do the Tourism and Hospitality course.Read more

Ques. Which is better, IIM Sirmaur tourism and hospitality or FMS BHU?

● Top Answer By Kumar Abhijit on 19 Jan 23

Ans. FMS BHU gives an edge to IIM Sirmaur in almost every aspect. The fact that it is a baby IIM yet to establish its position in the industry is the main drawback of IIM Sirmaur. Even its IIM tag lacks credibility and worth because of its weak alumni base and below average placements. However, if you are specifically choosing IIM for the course and not the tag, then you might go for it. FMS BHU is one of the leading B Schools technically due to its early establishment. It has an upper hand in the following aspects when compared to IIM Sirmaur Better placements than IIM Sirmaur Strong alumni base Better infrastructure and faculty  The table below draws a slight comparison between the placement scenarios of the 2 B Schools Particulars  IIM Sirmaur FMS BHU Number of students participated  183 174 Number of students placed 183 168 Number of Recruiters  140 44 Highest CTC INR 26.50 LPA INR 18 LPA Average CTC  INR 12.74 LPA INR 9.7 LPARead more
