Comparison Notes

Planning to study in Canada? One of the nation’s top universities is University of British Columbia (UBC). Simon Fraser University (SFU), though lags a little behind in national rankings, but is honored in Canada #2 for international outlook by Times Higher Education. Though the obvious choice between the two universities is UBC, here are some parameters an international student can use for making a decision.

Why Study at SFU?

  • Number of programs offered are more.
  • Relatively higher acceptance rate.
  • Tuition fees for most programs is lower than UBC.
  • Cheaper on-campus accommodation
  • First Canadian university to have an Executive MBA program.

Why study at UBC?

  • Better global and national rankings.
  • Graduates are hired at a better package.
  • Larger library collection
  • Better MBA and engineering rankings
  • Larger student community with higher international student percentage.

UBC is not only a better ranking university, but also sees better placements. Though the tuition may seem a little higher than SFU, UBC is still more prestigious, older and renowned institution within Canada and across the world. Getting into either of the two universities is equally difficult as the exam scores required are similar and the acceptance rate also does not differ drastically. So enrolling with UBC is a better choice over enrolling with SFU.
