St. Xavier's College B.Sc Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to pursue B.Sc degree in St. Xaviers’s College must clear all the following eligibility criterias.

  • Candidates applying for UG degree should not have a lapse of more than five years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination.
  • The candidate must have studied and passed in English language in the +2 level English language.
  • If the candidate does not have English as a subject in +2 level, he/she shall not be eligible to apply.
  • For the compulsory subjects, the candidate must score a minimum of 45% for each paper.
  • Foreign Nationals who wish to pursue B.Sc degree in St. Xavier's need to produce a TOEFL/IELTS certificate if the institution of study in the qualifying examination was not in English medium.
  • Students passing the GCE examination of UK are eligible for admission needed they be passed with 2 ‘A’ levels and 3 ‘O’ levels

St. Xavier's College offers a full-time BSc program in 8 specializations, namely, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer science, Economics, Statistics, Microbiology, and Mass Communication. Admissions to the program are done through an entrance test conducted by the institute.

St. Xavier's College B.Sc Selection Criteria

  • Candidates wishing to take admission for B.Sc degree in St. Xavier's College, Kolakata must clear their 10+2 in English medium with at least 60% for all individual compulsory subjects.

  • Students who have completed 10th abroad and +2 in India, must take the entrance test.
  • Students who have completed 10th in India and +2 abroad, are exempted from taking the entrance test.
  • Students who have completed both 10th and +2 abroad are also exempted from taking the entrance test.

  • Pay the application fee of INR 1000 per course in online mode through debit card/credit card/netbanking facility.

St. Xavier's College B.Sc Programme Details - Curriculum, Syllabus

  • B.Sc. students are liable to pick any Arts subject as a Generic Elective (GE) in 1st and/or 2nd year according to limited availability of reserved seats.
  • However the choice of Science subjects for GE has to be chosen by the combinations given below.

Program Structure

  • Course Structure: The program is scheduled for a duration of 3 years which is divided into 6 semesters.
  • Each academic year has two semesters; July to December and January to June.
  • Each student must score 140 academic credits, take up 2 foundation courses and 2 co-curricular credits to complete the course successfully.
  • In the final semester, each student has to take up and complete a dissertation for the successful completion of the course.
  • Internal assessment shall be marked on the basis of CIA evaluation. CIA comprises 20% of the total weightage of marks.
  • A student must score at least 40% marks in each paper to successfully clear that particular paper.

  • Attendance Details: A student must have 75% attendance for each individual paper. Students less than this required attendance percentage will not be allowed to appear for semester examination without condonation.
  • Students with attendance less than 40% in all papers in a semester may either be struck off from the rolls or can repeat the semester in the following academic year.
  • Students who are absent for 5 consecutive days, must inform the head about the absence and meet the vice principal and submit the reason for absence.
