Established on September 29, 1950, Government Medical College (GMC), Patiala is the second oldest college in the State of Punjab. The college’s mission is to be a globally acclaimed institution that is recognized for excellence in medical education, scientific research, and medical care. The college serves a population of 20 lakhs. The college also supports various kinds of research for new diseases. 

Government Medical College is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences. All the courses provided by the college are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the college is approved by UGC. 

The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in courses like MBBS, B.Sc, MD, and MS. Also, the college functions in some super specialty departments.

Admission to the programs is granted on the basis of NEET UG/PG. For Diploma courses, admissions are done based on the merit list issued by the college.

B.Sc Duration: 3 years
Eligibility criteria: The candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognized or equivalent state board in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects. The candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% (40% for SC/ST) marks in the qualifying examination in PCB taken together.
Selection criteria - Based on NEET or PPMET score followed by the national level counseling
Specializations: Nursing, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry
Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Duration: 2 years
Eligibility criteria: The candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognized or equivalent state board in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects. The candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% (40% for SC/ST) marks in the qualifying examination in PCB taken together.

MD Duration: 3 years
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must have completed MBBS from a recognized university along with one year of internship.
Selection criteria - Based on score in NEET-PG followed by counseling

MS Duration: 3 years
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must have completed MBBS from a recognized university along with one year of internship.

Diploma Duration: 2 years
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Biotechnology as compulsory subjects with 50% aggregate marks. For the candidates belonging to SC/ ST, the minimum qualifying marks in PCB is 40%.

GMCP Admissions

For Diploma courses, admissions are done based on the merit list issued by the college. Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Biotechnology as compulsory subjects with 50% aggregate marks. For the candidates belonging to SC/ ST, the minimum qualifying marks in PCB is 40%.  

Candidates who are selected at the time of counseling need to appear for medical examination and fee deposition on the dates issued by the counseling board. Additionally, some Physically Handicapped candidates also have to appear before the Medical Board for assessment. 

For MBBS, B.Sc, and Nursing courses, the selection of students is done on the basis of performance of the candidate in NEET conducted by CBSE along with National Level Counselling. Candidates who have a valid rank in PPMET are also eligible to apply to the college.

Any candidate can apply for NEET for a maximum of three times. Counseling is first conducted online and then offline. Candidates who are selected during the online counseling process will have to visit the college on a provisional basis and admissions are confirmed only once the fee is deposited and the documents are verified.

For admission to MD and MS courses, the merit list is prepared by the college based on the single-window entrance exam, that is, NEET-PG.

Candidates who have graduated in MBBS and have done at least one year of internship are eligible to apply to the college.

  • Fill the online application form and write down the Registration Number and Application ID after filling the mandatory details.
  • Upload the scanned copies of the signature, thumb impression, and photographs.

  • Take the printout of the confirmation page for future reference.
  • After the declaration of result, the candidates will have to apply for the state-wise or university-wise counseling procedure.
